Accessibility Statement

Access to Village Information & Services

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Village of Fonda is committed to providing access to Village information, programs, services and online resources for all members of the public, including individuals with disabilities.

We want residents, property owners, businesses, visitors and others who use our website to be able to find information, access Village services, review public documents and communicate with Village government.

The Village recognizes that accessibility is an ongoing responsibility. As our website grows and changes, we will continue working to identify and address accessibility barriers and improve the usability of our online information and services.

Our Accessibility Goal

The Village seeks to design, maintain and improve its website using recognized web-accessibility practices. Our website is being developed and maintained with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) in mind, including accessibility requirements applicable to state and local government websites under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Village's technical goal is to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements and, where practicable, to use WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the standard for new and updated website content.

Accessibility is not a one-time website project. New pages, documents, forms, notices and online services will continue to be added to the Village website. Accessibility will remain an important part of how those resources are developed, reviewed and maintained.

Making Our Website Easier to Use

The Village works to provide an online experience that supports accessibility through features and practices such as:

  • Keyboard navigation without requiring the use of a mouse
  • Logical page organization and heading structure
  • Meaningful links and button descriptions
  • Alternative text for meaningful images
  • Appropriate contrast between text, backgrounds and interface elements
  • Content that can be enlarged without losing important information or functionality
  • Forms with clear labels and understandable instructions
  • Visible keyboard focus
  • Information that does not rely upon color alone to communicate meaning
  • Clear and understandable website content
  • Properly structured tables when tables are necessary
  • Accessible electronic documents where applicable
  • Compatibility with commonly used assistive technologies

The Village will continue evaluating these and other accessibility practices as the website is updated.

Accessible Documents

The Village website contains public documents in formats including PDF, Microsoft Word and other electronic file types. These documents may include:

  • Applications and forms
  • Public notices
  • Meeting records
  • Resolutions
  • Reports
  • Water-quality information
  • Code Enforcement documents
  • Project information
  • Procurement documents
  • Maps
  • Engineering materials
  • Historical records

The Village is working to make documents used to provide current programs, services and public information accessible.

Some older documents and historical records may have been created before current digital-accessibility practices were adopted and may not be fully accessible to all assistive technologies. If you experience difficulty accessing a document on the Village website, please contact us. When appropriate, the Village will work with you to provide access to the information in an accessible alternative format.

Historical & Archived Records

The Village maintains historical and archived government records on its website as a public service. Some of these records were created many years before modern digital-accessibility standards and may exist primarily in their original format.

This can include older meeting records, resolutions, scanned documents, engineering materials, maps, historical notices and other government records. The Village seeks to preserve the integrity of original government records while also helping members of the public access the information they contain.

If a historical or archived document presents an accessibility barrier, please contact the Village for assistance.

Third-Party Websites & Online Services

The Village website provides links to websites and online services operated by other government agencies, organizations and third-party service providers. These may include online payment services, government resources, online code resources and other services that are not operated directly on the Village of Fonda website.

If you experience an accessibility problem while using an outside service to access Village information or services, please contact the Village so we can help you access the information or service you need.

If you have difficulty accessing any information, document, form, feature or service on the Village of Fonda website because of a disability, please let us know. We want members of the public to be able to obtain the Village information and services they need.
