Active Projects
Understanding Project Status
A project may involve more than one of these activities at the same time.
Planning
The Village is defining the need, evaluating alternatives or developing the concept.
Funding Pursuit
The Village is identifying, applying for or developing eligibility for outside financial assistance.
Study / Engineering
Professional evaluation, feasibility work, preliminary engineering or design is underway.
Approved
Required Village authorization has been obtained for the applicable stage.
In Progress
The initiative is actively advancing through implementation, regulatory, administrative or other project work.
Construction
Physical construction or installation is underway.
Completed
The project or applicable project phase has been completed.
From an Idea to a Village Project
Municipal projects rarely begin with construction.
Many begin with the identification of a problem, an opportunity, a funding program or a long-term community need.
Before a project can become reality, the Village may need to:
- Identify and define the need
- Meet with residents, agencies or other stakeholders
- Research possible solutions
- Develop partnerships
- Determine property or right-of-way needs
- Consult engineers, attorneys or other professionals
- Complete studies or preliminary engineering
- Identify State and federal requirements
- Estimate costs
- Pursue grants and other outside funding
- Obtain required approvals
- Develop final plans and specifications
- Conduct required procurement
- Secure Board authorization
- Complete construction or implementation
Some initiatives may take months. Larger infrastructure and community development projects can take several years from concept to completion.
For that reason, much of the work being performed by Village government may not yet be visible as construction.
Planning, engineering, agency coordination, partnership development and funding pursuits are often the work that makes future construction possible.
Pursuing Outside Funding
For a community the size of Fonda, responsible long-term planning must also include an aggressive effort to identify outside financial assistance.
The Village continually evaluates State, federal, County and other funding opportunities that may help advance infrastructure and community projects while reducing the financial burden placed directly upon Village taxpayers and utility customers.
This work can include preliminary meetings with funding agencies, eligibility reviews, engineering and planning studies, grant applications, financing evaluations and developing projects so they are positioned to compete when appropriate funding opportunities become available.
A project appearing on the Village website does not necessarily mean that construction has been authorized or funding has been awarded.
Its status should tell residents whether the Village is evaluating, planning, studying, funding, designing, approving, constructing or completing the initiative.
Transparency Throughout the Process
The Village believes transparency should extend beyond final decisions.

- Grant awards
- Funding being pursued
- Participating agencies and partners
- Engineering or planning information
- Public documents
- Maps or conceptual materials where appropriate

Formal actions of the Board of Trustees will continue to be documented through Village meeting minutes, motions and resolutions.
Together, these resources provide residents with a clearer picture of both the decisions being made today and the work underway to prepare Fonda for tomorrow.
