Elections

Village of Fonda elections are administered by the Montgomery County Board of Elections under authorization of the Village Board of Trustees.

Village of Fonda Elections

The Village of Fonda has authorized the Montgomery County Board of Elections to conduct Village elections.

New York State Election Law allows a village, by resolution of its Board of Trustees and subject to the requirements of law, to transfer responsibility for conducting its Village elections to the county Board of Elections. The Village of Fonda has exercised this option, allowing Village elections to be administered through the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

This arrangement provides Village residents with a centralized election system for voter registration, election administration, voting procedures, ballots, polling information, and other election-related services.

How Village Elections Are Administered

The Montgomery County Board of Elections administers Village elections in accordance with New York State Election Law.

Among its election administration responsibilities, the Board of Elections manages voter registration records and carries out the election process, including applicable voting procedures and election administration.

Only individuals properly registered to vote with the Board of Elections and otherwise qualified under New York State law may vote in a Village election.

The Village continues to fulfill those responsibilities assigned to it under New York State law, including actions of the Mayor, Board of Trustees, and Village Clerk that may be required in connection with elective Village offices, vacancies, notices, terms of office, or other municipal matters.

Village Elected Offices

The Village of Fonda's elected governing body consists of the Mayor and four Village Trustees.

The Mayor and Trustees serve four-year terms, with terms staggered so that not all seats expire at the same time.

Information concerning current elected officials and their terms of office is available on the Village's Public Officials & Appointments page.
