🔥 Reminder: New York State Open Fire Ban in Effect from March 16 – May 14, 2025 🔥
As we move into spring, New York State’s annual residential brush-burning ban is in effect from March 16 through May 14. This vital measure helps reduce the risk of wildfires, protecting lives, property, and our environment.
🚫 Open burning of debris is the leading cause of spring wildfires in New York. Warming temperatures and dry vegetation create high fire risks during this season. Residents play a crucial role in wildfire prevention by following the burn ban.
🔥 What’s Prohibited?
- Burning of debris, including leaves, branches, and brush
- Unattended outdoor fires
✅ What’s Allowed?
- Small campfires and backyard fire pits (must be under 3 feet in height and 4 feet in diameter, using charcoal or untreated wood)
- Cooking fires (as long as they are supervised and fully extinguished)
Since its inception in 2009, the NYS burn ban has significantly decreased the number of wildfires during this high-risk period. Your cooperation keeps our communities safe!
💡 Reminder for Village of Fonda Residents:
