π₯ Reminder: New York State Open Fire Ban in Effect from March 16 β May 14, 2025 π₯
As we move into spring, New York Stateβs annual residential brush-burning ban is in effect from March 16 through May 14. This vital measure helps reduce the risk of wildfires, protecting lives, property, and our environment.
π« Open burning of debris is the leading cause of spring wildfires in New York. Warming temperatures and dry vegetation create high fire risks during this season. Residents play a crucial role in wildfire prevention by following the burn ban.
π₯ Whatβs Prohibited?
- Burning of debris, including leaves, branches, and brush
- Unattended outdoor fires
β Whatβs Allowed?
- Small campfires and backyard fire pits (must be under 3 feet in height and 4 feet in diameter, using charcoal or untreated wood)
- Cooking fires (as long as they are supervised and fully extinguished)
Since its inception in 2009, the NYS burn ban has significantly decreased the number of wildfires during this high-risk period. Your cooperation keeps our communities safe!
π‘ Reminder for Village of Fonda Residents:
π« Local law prohibits open burning year-round in the Village of Fonda, with few exceptions. Learn more at www.ecode360.com/32520808.
