FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Village of Fonda Issues Boil Water NOTICE

The Village of Fonda has issued a Boil Water Notice effective immediately for all water users. This advisory is in place because the public water system’s turbidity (cloudiness) and chlorine levels are not meeting the New York State Department of Health standards.

While this is not an immediate health risk, we urge all residents to boil their water as a precaution. Please bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. Alternatively, bottled water may be used.

What Are Turbidity and Chlorine Levels?

Turbidity refers to the cloudiness of water caused by suspended particles, such as sediment, organic material, or minerals. While turbidity is not harmful, it can interfere with the effectiveness of disinfection processes and may indicate other potential water quality issues.

Chlorine is added to public water supplies as a disinfectant to eliminate bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. Balancing chlorine levels is crucial to ensure water is safe for consumption. When turbidity exceeds acceptable levels, it can reduce chlorine’s ability to disinfect the water effectively.

Causes of These Issues

The current conditions may result from excess rain causing disturbances or natural variations in the source water. Our certified water operators are working diligently to address this issue under the guidance and regulations of the New York State Department of Health.

Our Commitment to Public Health

The safety of our residents is our top priority. We actively monitor the situation, perform system adjustments, and conduct necessary testing to ensure the water meets the required standards as quickly as possible.

Stay Informed

We encourage water users to stay updated by visiting the Village of Fonda Public Notices webpage. Updates will also be shared through additional notices and messages as the situation evolves.

We apologize for any inconvenience this advisory may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to restore full compliance with health standards.
