Important Update: Boil Water Notice Lifted

Good news! The Water Commissioner has lifted the Boil Water Notice, and the restrictions on outdoor water use have been removed. Please take a look at the important public advisory below for more information.

Public Advisory: Steps to Follow After a Boil Water Notice is Lifted

The Village of Fonda advises residents to follow these steps to ensure their plumbing and appliances are adequately flushed after a boil water notice has been lifted:

  1. Flush Cold Water Faucets:
    • Run cold water faucets in the kitchen, bathroom, showers, and tubs for 10 minutes to circulate clean water throughout the plumbing system.
    • We also recommend running outside water spigots.
    • Example of flushing house lines:
      • If you have 1 faucet, run it for 10 minutes.
      • If you have 2 faucets, run both for 5 minutes each.
      • If you have 3 faucets, run each for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Flush Appliances:
    • Check the owner’s manual for instructions on cleaning and flushing appliances that use water.
    • Run a sanitized cycle on your dishwasher with no dishes inside.
    • For automatic ice makers, make and discard at least one to three batches of ice cubes to discard the ice and flush the water feed lines.
  3. Flush Hot Water Tanks:
    • Turn on the hot water at all faucets and run until the water turns cool.
    • For a 40-gallon hot water tank, flush for at least 15 minutes.
    • For an 80-gallon or larger hot water tank, flush for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Replace Filters:
    • Replace water filters in refrigerators, faucets, pitchers, and under the sink. These filters are not designed to remove bacteria that may be present during a boil water advisory.

Following these steps will help ensure your water is safe and your plumbing system is contaminant-free.
