Public Notice: Boil Water Order for Village of Fonda System

Effective Date: June 27, 2024

Attention: All Water Users in the Village of Fonda and the Town of Mohawk

Due to elevated turbidity levels detected in the Village of Fonda water system, a Boil Water Order is now in effect for all Village Water System users. This precautionary measure is necessary to ensure the safety of the drinking water supply.

What You Need to Do:

Boiling Drinking Water:

  1. Bring tap water to a rolling boil.
  2. Maintain the rolling boil for at least one (3) minutes.
  3. Allow the water to cool before using.
  4. Store boiled water in clean, covered containers.

Water Use Guidelines During Boil Water Order:

  • Drinking: Only consume boiled or bottled water.
  • Cooking: Use boiled or bottled water for food preparation, including washing fruits and vegetables.
  • Brushing Teeth: Use boiled or bottled water for oral hygiene.
  • Making Ice: Discard existing ice and use boiled or bottled water to make new ice.
  • Washing Dishes: It is recommended to use boiled water or sanitize dishes by soaking in a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of tap water for at least 1 minute.
  • Bathing and Showering: Exercise caution to avoid swallowing water. Infants and young children should be sponge-bathed.
  • Laundry: It is safe to do laundry as usual.

We are working diligently to address the issue and restore the water quality to safe levels. As more information becomes available, we will provide updates. PLEASE NOTE: Water is required to be tested with positive returns before this order may be lifted; this process is at least three days.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time.
