Important Water Advisory Update

Residents of the Village of Fonda, please see the attached detailed press release regarding the current water situation within our water system. This release includes important information about the steps being taken to address the recent changes in water quality, the ongoing boil water advisory, and the support measures being implemented for our community.

Key Points:

  • Tour and Discussion: On July 15, 2024, the Mayor organized a tour and discussion with officials and experts to review our water filtration process and emergency response capabilities.
  • Water Quality Issues: Changes in raw water chemistry due to recent weather conditions have caused turbidity issues, complicating water treatment efforts. An equipment and notification failure led to the boil water advisory.
  • Proactive Measures: The Village is collaborating with engineers, chemists, and the NYSDOH to adjust plant operations. A two-week pilot study is underway to manage current raw water conditions.
  • Boil Water Advisory: The advisory affects Village of Fonda customers only and does not include well users. The Village of Fonda and the Village of Fultonville operate separate water systems.
  • Bottled Water Distribution: We have distributed bottled water to residents, including homebound individuals. Additional distributions are scheduled, including one today at Fonda Park from 3 PM to 6 PM.
  • Communication and Updates: Regular updates will be provided via our official website and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Hyper-Reach program.
