The Village of Fonda would like to let you know about the process for lifting the current boil water notice. The New York State (NYS) Health Department establishes and oversees this process to ensure public safety.
Current Status
Turbidity and chlorine levels at the filtration plant have reached the required standards. However, chlorine levels across the transmission system must be consistently balanced to lift the boil water notice.
Hydrant Flushing Notice
To help move the water and disburse appropriate chlorination, we will be flushing the hydrant located at the Waste Treatment Facility near the fairgrounds, which is at the end of one of our water mains. Please be aware that this activity may cause temporary water disturbances.
The Process
The steps involved are as follows:
- Chlorination Levels Adjusted: Village water operators must first bring chlorination levels to the required standards.
- System Testing: Chlorination levels are tested at multiple locations strategically selected along the various transmission lines throughout the Village’s water system. This ensures that proper chlorination levels are consistently maintained across the entire system, effectively reaching all parts of the community.
- Water Sample Testing: Once the required chlorine levels are confirmed, various samples are drawn as outlined by the state and submitted to a third-party lab for testing to verify the water is safe for consumption.
Processes are carried out by state-certified water operators under the daily oversight and technical advisement of the NYS Health Department, with assistance from our engineering firm.
We will continue to keep the community informed throughout this process. Bottled water remains available at the Village Offices from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Bottled Water Remains Available 9 AM to 3 PM today and tomorrow at the Village offices as previously communicated.
